Safe Options for Venezuelans to Emigrate to the U.S.

Irregular migration to the United States puts people's lives at risk. However, there are safe and legal ways for Venezuelans to emigrate to the U.S., such as the humanitarian parole program and the expansion of legal pathways through the "Safe Mobility" initiative.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) offers humanitarian parole to nationals of Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela, and their immediate family members, to enter the U.S. in a safe and orderly manner. Qualified beneficiaries outside the United States who lack entry documents may be considered, on a case-by-case basis, for advance authorization for parole and a temporary stay of up to two years.

To participate in this program, eligible beneficiaries must have a sponsor in the United States willing to provide financial support, undergo a thorough security background check, and meet other eligibility criteria.

Additionally, the Biden administration announced the expansion of legal pathways to the United States for refugees and migrants in South and Central America through the "Safe Mobility" program. This initiative will establish Safe Mobility Offices in some countries in the region to direct refugees and migrants to legal admission pathways, with the support of UNHCR, IOM, and other partners.
