Who is Linda Yepes? The Scandal Surrounding President Petro in Colombia
Trans Presenter Denies Being the Woman in President's Controversial Video
Bogotá, Colombia - A video that circulated on social media last week has sparked a political scandal in Colombia. The footage shows a man resembling President Gustavo Petro walking hand-in-hand with a woman who is not his wife, on the streets of Panama.
Commentators online quickly identified the woman as Linda Yepes, a well-known transgender television presenter in Colombia. However, Yepes has denied being the person in the video and has reported receiving threats from the opposition.
Linda Yepes' Version
In an exclusive interview with the Despierta América program, Yepes stated that she was in Panama at the time the video was filmed, but refused to confirm whether she was the woman depicted. "I was in Panama. I love Panama," she said, but added that "I still can't give the details."
Yepes revealed that the Colombian presidential team had contacted her about the images, but emphasized that she could not provide more information, citing threats from the opposition to the government. "I can't give you the details. At the moment, I can't give you an answer. As you know, I have received threats from the opposition.
They are pointing at me. I have received threats. I'm afraid," she affirmed.
Silence from the Government
Neither President Petro, First Lady Verónica Alcocer, nor any member of the Colombian cabinet have publicly commented on this incident. The video and Yepes' statements have captured international media attention, but the authorities have maintained a low profile so far.
This scandal surrounding President Petro has generated more questions than answers. Linda Yepes' refusal to confirm or deny her involvement in the video, coupled with the government's silence, has fueled speculation and uncertainty. As new details emerge, this case will continue to be the subject of public scrutiny and debate in Colombia.
